This achievement paves the way for advanced treatment options in managing overactive bladder syndrome, a condition affecting an estimated 200 million people worldwide according to the World Health Organization.
Despite the widespread prevalence of the condition, treatment options have been limited. In cases like that of Hariharan, where traditional treatments fail to provide relief, more innovative solutions are required.
With this in mind, the team at Aster Medcity proposed Sacral Neuromodulation Surgery, a cutting-edge procedure. The surgery, which required the expertise of both the neurosurgery and urology departments, involved implanting the InterStim device. This device, similar to a pacemaker, helps regulate the sacral nerves, thereby controlling bowel and bladder functions.
